This shoot is so special and near to my heart. The day Alicia told me she was pregnant was overwhelmingly exciting. We became friends fast, but having grown up very similarly I felt like I had known her my whole life.
Their idea was to go to Peebles Island for their shoot, the place where Troy, her husband, had proposed. How could I say no to that?
Shooting them at the exact spot where Troy asked Alicia to be his wife was quite honestly one of the most emotional things I have done thus far in photography. It was overwhelmingly beautiful. The lighting was perfect, the air was still.
The day after I finished their photos, I received the worst news. The star of this shoot, baby Rome, was needed more in Heaven than he was on Earth. Alicia carried him with grace, delivering him earthside November 3rd. Rome may not have been here physically for long, but the love for him will span a million lifetimes.
I have learned so much from watching Alicia and Troy live for Rome. Their commitment to one another and love for their little boy is awe inspiring. I thank them so much for not only allowing me to shoot them, but for allowing me to share these photos, and Rome himself, with the world.
May his memory be a blessing.
